When the GOAT willingly shares advice, you listen.
When Brady was still playing, he was fixated on winning Super Bowls, and if that meant defeating Mahomes’ Chiefs, so be it.
The two quarterbacks faced each other six times, winning three games apiece. However, Brady won the two most important matchups against Mahomes: the 2019 AFC Championship and Super Bowl LV.
Now that Brady is retired, the seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback is more willing to share his secrets to success.
While appearing on Up & Adams, Mahomes spoke about legacy and the advice he received from the winningest quarterback in NFL history.
“I think [legacy is] always in the back of your mind — even from the beginning of my career,” Mahomes told Kay Adams. “But at the end of the day, it’s about taking it a day at a time — a day, and a day, and a day, just continuing to do that. That’s something that I’ve been conscious of, of knowing how blessed I am to be in Kansas City, to have all these great players around me.
“And having Tom, a guy like that say that, just motivates me even more. I’ve actually talked to Tom a good amount this offseason. It’s cool that he wants to give me advice. He doesn’t have to be like that. He’s such a good dude. And I have so much respect for him, and I’ll take any advice he gives me.”
While Mahomes didn’t dive into the Xs and Os, the Chiefs quarterback shared how Brady taught him to be the best version of himself.
“He [Brady] always talks about being yourself. He thinks that, which I truly believe, too, is that guys can spot when you’re not authentic, and you’re not putting in the work. That’s something that he did every single day,” Mahomes said. “That’s why guys respected him so much. And that’s all I’m going to do for the rest of my career, and I feel like I’ve done so far, is I’m always myself — no matter if you like me or don’t like me, you know I’m giving everything I can to win football games.”
Tom Brady Vs. Patrick Mahomes: Inside The Numbers

Brady is widely considered the greatest quarterback of all time. Because of his historic start, Mahomes is the quarterback best positioned to match or surpass Brady’s success.
By no means will it be easy.
Brady’s longevity — 23 seasons — gives him a huge advantage, especially in Super Bowls. Brady appeared in 10 Super Bowls, winning seven and receiving five Super Bowl MVPs.
Mahomes, 29, has a 3-2 record in Super Bowls, with three MVPs.
Brady’s passing numbers could be unattainable if Mahomes can’t play at a high level for another decade.
Brady finished his career with 89,214 passing yards and 649 touchdowns. Mahomes currently has 32,352 passing yards and 245 touchdowns.
