It wouldn’t be an NFL season without some Dallas Cowboys drama. Owner Jerry Jones took a public shot at Micah Parsons during Monday’s press conference.

When it comes to generating headlines for the NFL media, Jones can’t help himself. He loves it when the entire world is talking about his Cowboys.
Jones and Cowboys brass are currently negotiating a new contract extension for Parsons. Jones stated that he has not spoken with Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta. The eccentric owner went on to talk about Parsons’ future contract and how it doesn’t guarantee he’ll be on the field.
“Just because we sign him doesn’t mean we’re going to have him,” Jones told the media on Monday via X. “He was hurt six games last year. Seriously!”
Jones didn’t stop there. He doubled down on his point by roping Dak Prescott’s injury into this situation.
“I remember signing a player [as] the highest-paid player at the position in the league, and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year,” Jones said. “Dak Prescott. So there’s a lot of things you can think about, just as the player does, when you’re thinking about committment, guarantee, and money.”
If you’re going to take a shot at your best defensive player, at least get the facts right. Parsons only missed four games last season, not six.
Many former players have come to the defense of Parsons, including J.J. Watt.
“Anytime you can publicly take a dig at your star quarterback and your star pass rusher simultaneously, right before the season begins, you just gotta take it,” Watt wrote on X. “Nothing makes guys want to fight for you more than hearing how upset you are that they got hurt while fighting for you.”
Parsons agreed with Watt and gave the future Hall of Famer a retweet.

Micah Parsons Will Get Paid … Eventually
I have NO doubts that a deal will be done before Week 1 and Micah Parsons will be the highest-paid defensive player in the league.
But I just want Dallas to be a serious front office for once. There is just no need for all of this nonsense. https://t.co/XIbEaCGrz9

Parsons is ready to sign a contract extension. The Cowboys want to pay Parsons, but only when they deem it’s time. The Cowboys employed a similar approach with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, waiting until the last possible minute to come to terms on a deal.
Parsons recently spoke about his contract with The Undertaker on the Six Feet Under podcast. Parsons wants to get this done sooner rather than later.
“We obviously wanted to get done early,” Parsons said on the podcast via ESPN’s Field Yates. “We want that relief off our backs. But, obviously, ownership is always gonna make it drag out, make it more complicated than it has to be. Lack of communication and that standpoint, but, you know, I just always say, God has me this far, he ain’t done with me yet, so, you know, I just just keep working, keep going, and then when it comes, I’m gonna be ready. But, you know, ain’t gonna be no drop off.”
Parsons has quickly become one of the game’s best edge rushers, with 52.5 sacks in four seasons. With Pittsburgh’s T.J. Watt resetting the market at $41 million per year, expect Parsons’ number to exceed that.
