The Golden State Warriors have been one of the most inactive teams during the 2025 offseason. They’ve made no changes to their roster in the way of free agency or trades, and are running out of options in order to improve the team for the upcoming campaign. And according to reports, it is because they’ve been trying to iron out the Jonathan Kuminga situation, and to no avail.
Warriors Offseason Plans On Hold Until Kuminga Situation Is Settled
The 22-year-old Kuminga is a restricted free agent after spending his first four NBA seasons with Golden State. There are rifts between him and the team during the most recent season, which included benchings and DNPs during the playoff run for the Warriors. There are significant rumors about his severed relationship with head coach Steve Kerr, and all signs pointed to a split this summer.

Kuminga’s market hasn’t exactly been as robust as he’d hoped. Sources say that he is looking for a deal somewhere in the $30 million range, but no team has stepped up to the plate on that amount, and he remains in talks with the Golden State. Apparently the team’s front office has only been willing to make offers that are somewhere in the $20 million range, a lower value that they can turn around and trade at some point in the near future.
But Kuminga is playing hard ball. There have been no significant advancements in the talks, and the player is being patient when it comes to the negotiations, in no rush to help the Warriors out by coming to a conclusion.
Is Golden State Running Out Of Options?
It has thrown a wrench in the offseason plans for Golden State. Kuminga’s situation was the team’s focal point of the summer, as coming to a conclusion would allow them to move forward with roster openings or new money to spend. They’ve instead done essentially nothing throughout June and July, and it is looking more likely that they are going to run things back with more or less the same squad that they had in 2024-25.
Warriors are not going to pay him what he wants.
Openly talking about S&T options.
Doesn't get along with the HC…
Time to move on. https://t.co/zzPV6WyHP1

There are moves that the Warriors have been rumored to be interested in, like bringing in veteran Al Horford, but that too is on pause until the Kuminga situation is taken care of.
Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game last season.
