The Milwaukee Brewers entered the 2025 MLB season with relatively low expectations. After six postseason appearances and four division titles over the previous seven seasons, the team had a quiet postseason, while letting one of their top offensive contributors walk in free agency. Their over/under win total for 2025 was set at 83.5, the 8th highest in the National League, and 17 teams had shorter World Series odds than Milwaukee.
Frugal Milwaukee Brewers Have The Best Record In The MLB
With just a week left until the start of August, the Brewers have the best record of any team in baseball, and have achieved that status despite having a payroll that ranks 24th in the MLB.
Milwaukee currently has roughly $71.5 million committed to their active roster. That is a lower number than what teams like the Pittsburgh Pirates ($77.2m) and Colorado Rockies ($79 million), and those two franchises currently have a combined record of 68-137.

The only teams getting a similar “bang for their buck” return are the Cleveland Indians and Tampa Bay Rays, who have lower payrolls but are both nearly 10 games behind the Brewers in the standings.
The team’s highest paid player is Christian Yelich, and by a long shot. The former league MVP is earning just over $24 million this year, which matches his production as the team’s most productive hitter. But no other player on the entire roster is making more than $8.1 million in 2025, with guys like Brice Turang, Jackson Chourio, and Freddie Peralta proving to be massive bargains given their output so far this year.
Will Milwaukee Keep The Pace For The Final Two Months + Postseason?
Can they keep it up for a deep postseason run? The Brewers sent three members of their pitching staff to the All-Star Game this season, giving them a solid defensive chance in October. As a staff, they have the fourth-lowest ERA in the MLB at 3.58, and they rank 8th overall in strikeouts.

With the trade deadline looming, the team could be looking to bolster their lineup before we head into the final months of the regular season. The unit ranks in the middle of the pack in most of the important statistical categories offensively, and could be looking to add another bat in order to keep up with the top teams in the league.
But the frugal Brewers have proved that they are able to do more with less than just about any team in the majors over the past few years. So don’t be surprised if they stand mostly pat at the trade deadline, and expect to see them near the top of the standings when the chase for the postseason rolls around.
