One day after injuring his toe, New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields returned to practice on Friday. Does this injury signal to the Jets to bring in another quarterback?

July 24 had the potential to be the worst day in the Jets’ recent history since Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles in 2023.
During Thursday’s practice, Fields suffered a foot injury that required him to be carted off the field.
Naturally, most Jets fans assumed the worst and immediately assumed Fields would be out for the season.
For a fanbase that watched Rodgers suffer a season-ending injury four plays into his Jets career, can you blame them for believing the same happened to Fields?
Later on Thursday, head coach Aaron Glenn said Fields sustained a dislocated toe in his right foot and would be day-to-day.
Jets fans breathed a sigh of relief on Friday as Fields returned to the practice field. Fields stretched and warmed up with the team. However, the quarterback did not participate in any drills.
Still, seeing Fields back at practice is a sign that he will return at some point before the season starts.
“It meant a lot to us,” backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor said about Fields on Friday (via the Jets team website). “Obviously, him being on the field brings good energy to the team. He’s one of our leaders. Him not being hurt for a long time is good news. Seeing him energized and back on the field ready to compete — he would’ve [gone] today if it was up to him. That’s the competitor he is. It was good to have him out there.”
Glenn explained how he had to stop the eager Fields from hitting the field during drills. Glenn plans to wait until Fields is 100% before putting him into the action.
“That’s who Justin is,” Glenn said. “I’d rather have a guy that I have to hold back than have to tell him to giddy up. He’s built like that. He’s a tough man. I expected that anyway. Once we understood and got the diagnosis, exactly what it was, I knew that was how he was going to operate.”
Should The Jets Sign Another Quarterback?

With Fields avoiding a major injury, he will be the starter in Week 1, barring a major setback.
Tyrod Taylor, Fields’ backup, will be the de facto starter for now. Adrian Martinez and Brady Cook will work with the backups.
Taylor is one of the better backups in the NFL. The soon-to-be 36-year-old is 29–28–1 and capable of winning a few games if Fields misses time during the regular season.
If Fields and Taylor go down, do the Jets feel comfortable playing Martinez or Cook? In that situation, they would certainly sign a veteran quarterback to come in and compete for the starting job.
Carson Wentz and Teddy Bridgewater immediately come to mind as free agents the Jets could sign in that scenario.
