Is Jerry Jones Creating A Media Circus For The Dallas Cowboys?

In what has wound up being one of the longest contract negotiations in recent memory, the Dallas Cowboys have still yet to meet the demands of Micah Parsons. Team owner Jerry Jones has made some questionable comments about the situation in recent days, which have made the man in charge appear unphased by the long-lasting debacle.

Jerry Jones Unbothered By Cowboys Negotiations

During the opening day of training camp last week, Jones answered questions from reporters regarding the negotiations. Instead of calming the waters, he took a shot at two of the top players on his team.

He cited the possibility of injuries, saying that just because they sign Parsons doesn’t mean he’ll always play, and referenced Dak Prescott playing in just 8 games last year while being the highest paid player in the NFL.

“Just because we sign him doesn’t mean we’re going to have him. He was hurt six games last year, seriously. We’ve signed, I remember signing a player for the highest-paid at the position in the league and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year in Dak Prescott. So there’s a lot of things you can think about, just as the player does, when you’re thinking about committing and guaranteeing money.”

The comments were expectedly met with scrutiny. While he has doled out big money in recent years to Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and others, he doesn’t appear bothered by the pressure of Micah Parsons’ situation.

Jones Hears Chants Of “Pay Micah!” While Speaking To Fans

Jones proved that notion even further over the weekend. The owner took it upon himself to talk to the crowd that was present at Cowboys practice in Oxnard, California, and was met with some chants of “Pay Micah!”

When asked about his thoughts on the passionate fans, he called it “light” in comparison to what he heard when Lamb was negotiating his new contract. Jones appeared to be egging the team’s fan base on in a way, proving that he is untroubled by the constant noise.

Micah Parsons is entering the final year of his rookie contract with the Cowboys, and feels as though he deserves a contract that reflects his standing as one of the best defensive players in the league. The price tag has only gone up this offseason, as guys like Maxx Crosby, Myles Garrett, and TJ Watt have all signed record-breaking deals, and the belief is that Parsons wants to be better paid than all of them.
