What started as a comment from Jerry Jones about Roc Nation has spiraled into an online war between Nicki Minaj and Dez Bryant. The drama includes accusations of abuse, sex offender labels, and a $10 million fight challenge. Here’s what actually happened and why it’s gone viral.
What Caused the Nicki Minaj and Dez Bryant Twitter Beef?
It all began when Cowboys owner Jerry Jones blamed Roc Nation (Jay-Z’s agency) for a difficult contract negotiation with Dez Bryant back in 2015. Jones claimed the agency ghosted him when he tried to finalize the deal. In response, Dez tweeted:
JERRY JONES I DONT THINK ITS SMART TO MENTION MY NAME
I KEPT QUIET ABOUT A LOT OF UNFAIR SHIT..
ON SOME G SHIT…
WE CAN HAVE STORY TIME IF THATS WHAT WE ARE DOING

“I DON’T THINK ITS SMART TO MENTION MY NAME… we can have story time.”
Nicki Minaj, who also has long-standing issues with Roc Nation, inserted herself into the situation, tweeting:
Hey, its Nicki
Minaj.
How about we play a game? 🏈
Every time you do a “Jerry Jones” or “NFL” story time, I’ll do a “story time” of my own. https://t.co/krBUoT3PO0 pic.twitter.com/wgZZcgZ6eg— Nicki Minaj (@NICKIMINAJ) August 4, 2025
“How about we play a game? Every time you do a ‘Jerry Jones’ or ‘NFL’ story time, I’ll do a ‘story time’ of my own… All my stories will be about ROC NATION, JAYZ & THE ALLEGED RACIST DESIREE PEREZ.”
This escalated the situation quickly, with Nicki attacking Dez personally over a past domestic violence arrest involving his mother. In retaliation, Dez took aim at her husband’s criminal past.
What Did Nicki Minaj Say About Dez Bryant and His Mother?
Minaj referenced Dez Bryant’s 2012 arrest, tweeting:
I’m so happy you brought this up. I’ll give you 10 million in cash if you’d come & fight him since you BEAT UR OWN MOM.
He was lied on 31 years ago while both of them were 16 & there’s proof 🤪 that’s why they couldn’t get that money they desperately needed & sued for!!!!!! 🤪… https://t.co/jriJzSveaH pic.twitter.com/S9Tz6bsprj

“I’ll give you 10 million in cash if you’d come & fight [my husband] since you BEAT UR OWN MOM.”
Back in 2012, Dez was arrested for allegedly striking his mother, Angela Bryant. The charge was a misdemeanor. She later submitted a non-prosecution affidavit, and the case was dismissed after Dez completed anger management. Dez has since said:
“I didn’t go to jail or touch my mama… I was defending myself… I removed her nails from my skin.”
Why Did Dez Bryant Call Nicki Minaj’s Husband a Sex Offender?
The fight offer came about after Bryant called out Minaj’s husband for his previous crimes, calling him a “sex offender”:
Say bitch I didn’t go to jail or touch my mama.. I was defending myself.. I removed her nails from my skin .. folks know I was dealing with some curupt shit in Dallas .. I don’t get how you can even be on the internet with your husband being a sex offender.. you said we are… https://t.co/hUY5IQnNHR pic.twitter.com/rvpbAOxRcW

“I don’t get how you can even be on the internet with your husband being a sex offender.”
That was a reference to Kenneth Petty, Minaj’s husband, who is a registered sex offender in New York. Petty was convicted in 1995 of attempted rape and served time. He also spent time in prison for a separate 2002 manslaughter case. He failed to register as a sex offender after moving to California, leading to additional legal trouble in recent years.
Who Is Desiree Perez and Why Did Nicki Minaj Mention Her?
Desiree Perez is the CEO of Roc Nation. She took over the role in 2019 after serving as COO since 2008. She’s a longtime Jay-Z ally and helped build Roc Nation’s music, sports, and philanthropic divisions.
Before her executive career, Perez was convicted in the 1990s on charges including conspiracy to distribute narcotics. She later cooperated with federal prosecutors and was granted a full pardon by Donald Trump in 2021.
Nicki Minaj referenced the pardon in her tweets, calling Perez “the alleged racist Desiree Perez” and implying that Roc Nation’s leadership lacked integrity.
She hasn’t responded publicly to Nicki’s comments, but her past, and her Trump pardon, are now part of the ongoing narrative tied to Roc Nation’s conflicts with high-profile artists.
Does Nicki Minaj Claim Jay-Z and Roc Nation Owe Her Money?
Yes. Nicki claims Jay-Z’s Roc Nation owes her $100–$200 million related to her equity in TIDAL, the streaming service Jay-Z launched in 2015. She says she only received $1 million after the platform was sold and wants what she considers her fair share. Nicki said she’d use the money to fund college scholarships for fans through her #StudentOfTheGame charity.
Steve Stoute, a Roc Nation insider, says Nicki never signed the final paperwork for the TIDAL equity and therefore forfeited her stake.
Is Dez Bryant Going to Fight Kenneth Petty for $10 Million?
I’ve been lied on my whole career so I’m not trying to hear all of that shit..I thought we was speaking facts.. I don’t play all of that funny shit… go get that 10 million in cash.. I’ll stomp that nigga out right in front of you.. and it’s ROC for life bitch https://t.co/lQYsDCqr2a
— Dez Bryant (@DezBryant) August 4, 2025
As part of her online barrage, Nicki offered Dez Bryant $10 million in cash to fight her husband, Kenneth Petty. Dez responded:
“Go get that 10 million in cash… I’ll stomp that n***a out.”
It’s unclear whether the challenge was serious or just for show, but both sides took it to heart. No fight is scheduled.

Where Things Stand Now

Dez Bryant has apologized publicly for his part in the feud. On August 4, 2025, he posted:
“I let the devil win that time… I apologize to the kids who follow me because I care about setting the right example.”
He also added that he didn’t start the drama, saying:
“I don’t bother people… I was just posting about my son. When people bring up my past, I tell them you can make it through anything…”
While Dez has taken a more reflective tone and stepped back from the fight, Nicki Minaj hasn’t publicly responded. Her posts remain online, and the $10M fight comments are still visible.
There’s no lawsuit, no scheduled fight, and no formal resolution. But the most aggressive phase of the Twitter feud may be over, at least on Dez’s end.
