Vrabel is known for instilling toughness in his players. Vrabel decided to practice what he preaches on Wednesday when he dove into a scrum to separate running back TreVeyon Henderson and multiple Commanders’ defenders.
The former linebacker walked away with a bloody cheek.
“We want to practice the same way we’ve practiced against our team and that’s by playing physical and aggressive and not doing stuff that hurts the team and certainly don’t expect any of that and if it does, we’ll have to handle it accordingly,” Vrabel said via the Patriots’ social media. “You have to be able to play competitively and physically without letting your emotions get the best of you.”
Vrabel’s toughness has been a huge hit in camp, especially with quarterback Drake Maye.
“That’s what we’re trying to build,” Maye said via Mark Daniels. “I think, and it starts with the coach, starts with the head coach. The intensity, bringing it every day, taking no crap when we’re out there on the field. But also, it comes to a time where, with our guys offensively, and getting over there and getting some tussles, and kind of having some penalties, and extra after the whistle can get us in trouble. But for mentality, I like it. I think that’s what you want. I mean, I almost got in there, but I think maybe another day, maybe. So, we’ll see.”

With Vrabel at the helm, the Patriots could surprise a lot of teams.
New England has missed the playoffs in three consecutive seasons, including last year’s 4-13 team that resulted in the firing of Jerod Mayo.
It helps to have a quarterback, and Maye flashed franchise potential last year. New England used free agency and the draft to strengthen their offense. The Pats drafted LSU left tackle Will Campbell to protect Maye’s blindside.
The Pats added wide receiver Stefon Diggs and running back TreVeyon Henderson to hopefully make the offense more dynamic.
The Patriots might be two years away from competing with the Buffalo Bills for the AFC East. However, the Patriots have the third-easiest schedule (.429) in the NFL, so New England could double their win total from last year.
