Entering his 15th season, Heyward wants a raise.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Heyward has not fully participated in practice during training camp. Heyward is awaiting a restructured contract that has not been finalized.
Heyward did not dress for Thursday’s practice, nor did he speak to the media.
Entering the 2024 season, Heyward was heading into the final year of a four-year, $65 million contract he signed in 2020. Days before Week 1 of the 2024 season, Heyward signed a three-year, $45 million contract extension.
Heyward has two years remaining on his deal, with $14.75 million for this season and $14.5 million for 2026. Heyward has already earned $13.45 million of his 2025 salary due to a roster bonus that will be paid during the season.
The market for defensive linemen experienced a seismic reset this past offseason. Houston’s Danielle Hunter ($35.6 million) and Las Vegas’ Maxx Crosby ($35.5 million) signed extensions that carry an average per-year salary of over $35 million.
Cleveland’s Myles Garrett set the new benchmark for edge rushers at $40 million per year after his extension. This summer, Heyward’s teammate, T.J. Watt, became the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL after a three-year extension worth $123 million, taking his average salary to $41 million annually.
In 2024, Heyward, 36, made First-team All-Pro for the fourth time in his career thanks to eight sacks and 71 tackles. Heyward is currently the 18th-highest-paid defensive tackle in the NFL.
Heyward and the Steelers have kept negotiations private, but no deal has been reached.
Chris Boswell Wants Contract Extension
In addition to Cam Heyward, All-Pro kicker Chris Boswell privately has been seeking a new contract from the Steelers, per source. Despite being voted first team All-Pro, Boswell was the AFC North’s lowest-paid kicker last season. Three years ago Boswell signed a contract that… https://t.co/4PEmbpoQjD

Heyward is not the only Steeler looking for a raise.
Schefter is also reporting that Boswell has been “privately” seeking a new contract from the Steelers.
Because of the Steelers’ offensive woes last season, Boswell became a legitimate weapon for the offense. Boswell made 41 field goals (career high) on 44 attempts. Boswell’s 158 points last season are the most of his career.
Boswell, the NFL’s scoring leader in 2024, was named to the Pro Bowl and made First-team All-Pro.
In 2022, Boswell signed a four-year, $20 million contract extension, tying him with Justin Tucker for the NFL’s highest-paid kicker. Now, Boswell’s average annual salary of $5 million is the 11th highest in the NFL.
