Shane van Gisbergen

Shane van Gisbergen and Trackhouse Racing are apparently just getting started in their journey together.

Trackhouse announced Thursday that van Gisbergen, winner of the last three NASCAR Cup Series races held at road courses, has signed a multi-year contract extension with the organization.

That means the 36-year-old New Zealander will remain with Trackhouse Racing through at least the 2027 season. Naturally, both parties are excited about continuing the relationship, which thus far has bore significant fruit.

Shane Van Gisbergen Sticking With Trackhouse Racing, And Vice Versa, Makes Sense

While the timing of Thursday’s news about Shane van Gisbergen may have been slightly surprising, Trackhouse Racing’s decision to lock him down for multiple years is no surprise.

Although van Gisbergen remains a work-in-progress at the oval tracks that make up well over three-fourths of the Cup Series schedule, his ongoing mastery of road courses makes him a driver that almost any team would covet.

In just the last two months, van Gisbergen has ripped off three Cup Series road course wins — in very convincing fashion. As a result, the rookie Cup driver is locked in the playoffs. He’s also in position to be one of the top seeds.

Before going full-time Cup Series racing this year with Trackhouse Racing, the winner of three V8 Supercars Championships drove a part-time schedule for the organization in 2024 after making his Cup Series debut the previous year with the Justin Marks-owned company. In that debut, van Gisbergen shocked the racing world by triumphing at the Chicago Street Course.

“I feel like Trackhouse Racing is my home,” van Gisbergen said. “Trackhouse gave me the opportunity to race at Chicago in 2023. That was just a one-race deal, and everything that has happened since then is because of the chance Justin took on me.

“The men and women at Trackhouse have helped me feel at home in this new challenge. And I’ve been loving every minute of it. We still have a lot of work to do. But I couldn’t be happier.”

International Driver Has Achieved Great Success In Short Time For Trackhouse Racing

Since his head-turning Cup Series debut, Shane van Gisbergen has continued to impress. Most notably, the New Zealand native has racked up the aforementioned trio of Cup Series victories. The first came back in June when the Cup Series made its maiden voyage to Mexico City. Later, in the month of July, van Gisbergen went back-to-back on the road courses in downtown Chicago and Sonoma, California. Incredibly, he prevailed all three times from the pole.

Last year, van Gisbergen competed full time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series where he went to Victory Lane three times — all on road circuits — after qualifying first or second. This year, van Gisbergen has made only two Xfinity Series starts. In the first of them, which came at the Chicago Street Course, he triumphed after starting first in a JR Motorsports Chevrolet. In the other outing, at Sonoma, he qualified P1 and came home second.

Given all of this, van Gisbergen is naturally the overwhelming favorite to sweep this weekend’s events at Watkins Glen International. He’s competing in both the Cup and Xfinity Series race at the 2.45-mile road course.

But no matter what happens at The Glen, Trackhouse Racing is thrilled to be keeping van Gisbergen in the fold.

“We are getting to watch one of the superstars of racing,” team owner Justin Marks said. “What we are asking him to do carries a high degree of difficulty. He’s moved to the other side of the world, learned a new form of racing and at times dominated the competition. He’s one of the greatest.”
