Daniil Medvedev

X/Twitter user Srihari has just given 29-year-old Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev even more impetus to do well at the upcoming US Open.

Medvedev, the self-described hardcourt specialist, former World No. 1 and 2021 US Open champion, has fallen down the rankings of late, to World No. 15.

His second round exit at the Cincinnati Open to World No. 85 Australian Adam Walton was a disappointment.

Medvedev seemed to struggle in the brutal Cincinnati heat so we hope he has time to rest and recharge before the US Open begins on August 24.

Srihari’s Online Daniil Medvedev Challenge

Srihari appears to be a Medvedev fan, but he is not a fan of onions. That’s why he is planning to record himself eating a raw onion if Medvedev makes it to the second week of the US Open.

Medvedev has a quirky and dry sense of humor so this could presumably give him a chuckle and extra motivation if he is struggling with the heat or his opponents in New York.

Medvedev fans such as S J told Srihari that it’s a “small price to pay for a good run.”

Luka Cekic said: “Enjoy that onion buddy.”

Srihari may have to eat his words and the onion because Medvedev has performed well at the US Open since being crowned champion in 2021. In 2022, he advanced to the fourth round while finishing as a finalist and quarterfinalist in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Medvedev has won 20 career ATP titles, but he has yet to win one in 2025. Could the US Open be the one, and will Medvedev respond to Srihari’s unusual challenge?

Fans want Medvedev to make a long and successful run in New York because his game and personality are great fodder for the ATP Tour.
