Benjamin Bonzi came into the US Open first round match with a 2-0 head to head lead over Daniil Medvedev. He jumped out to a two set lead and was serving for the match in the third set when chaos erupted.
Bonzi was serving 5-4 with the advantage. His first serve hit the net. After the serve and without explanation, a camera man walked onto the court. As the chair umpire was telling the camera man to get off the court, he decided to negate the first serve because of the disruption and unreasonable delay, giving Bonzi an extra serve.
Medvedev went crazy. He went to the chair umpire and spoke into the microphone. Among Medvedev’s choice words was that the chair umpire “wanted to go home.”
Daniil Medvedev whipped up the crowd who howled and booed at the call for nearly five minutes. Bonzi patiently waited, telling the umpire he did not want to play in the noise.

A cameraman was trying to leave after Bonzi missed his 1st serve.
The umpire gave Bonzi a 1st serve.

He eventually served and ultimately lost the point and the game.
Medvedev ultimately won the next game, putting himself in a position to win the set at 6-5.
He will still need one of his five set massive late night comebacks to get the job done against Bonzi, as the two continue to play.
This is the Daniil Medvedev of recent times.
It has been tough for Medvedev, a former US Open champion, who has now dropped out of the Top Ten.

He has been emotional and struggled with anger. Most recently, he walked off the court after a Cincinnati Open loss and left his bags and racquets behind.
Will this weird interlude spark his game?
It is difficult to say, but it is definitely one of the more bizarre incidents in recent US Open memory.
