Florida Panthers All-Star winger Matthew Tkachuk is expected to be out until January after undergoing surgery recently according to Josh Erickson of Pro Hockey Rumors. Tkachuk reportedly injured his adductor muscle and sports hernia during the Four Nations Faceoff in February. He missed the rest of the regular season and returned for the beginning of the Panthers run in the 2025 National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoffs. Tkachuk was instrumental in leading Florida to their second straight Stanley Cup title.
The loss of Tkachuk will be significant. He has become an instrumental force for Florida, not only from a point production standpoint, but from a leadership perspective. He has exemplified physical prowess and exceptional defensive skillset. Tkachuk is a +130 in his career, has 899 hits and 173 blocked shots. He has became a prime agitator, just like his father Keith used to be, and is not afraid to get in a fight. In fact, Tkachuk’s most famous fight of the season came at the Four Nations Faceoff against Brandon Hagel of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tkachuk represented the United States and Hagel represented Canada. The Americans beat the Canadians in this one game by a score of 3-1, but Canada came back and beat the United States 3-2 in the championship game. The Four Nations Faceoff Final in Boston on February 20 would be the last game Tkachuk would play before game one of the Panthers game against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs on April 22.
