The Buckeyes rule the college football world once again. The 2024 national champions defeated No. 1 Texas (0-1) 14-7 in a defensive showdown.
Ohio State (1-0) received 55 of 66 first-place votes to move to No. 1 in the poll.
Under first-year coordinator Matt Patricia, the Buckeyes held Texas quarterback Arch Manning to 170 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Manning had under 40 passing yards heading into the fourth quarter.
The Buckeyes stopped Texas’ fourth-down attempts four of five times. The biggest stop came in the third quarter when Manning was stuffed on a quarterback sneak on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line.
On the other side of the ball, Ohio State’s Julian Sayin completed 13 of 20 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown, which came in the fourth quarter.
The No. 1 Buckeyes host Grambling St. on Saturday in Columbus, while No. 7 Texas welcomes San Jose St. to Austin.

The LSU Tigers (1-0) arguably had the best win of the year.
LSU outscored Clemson 14-0 in the second half to win 17-10. The road win marks Brian Kelly’s first win in Week 1 as the coach of LSU.
NFL draft prospect Garrett Nussmeier looked the part of a top pick. Despite playing in a hostile environment, Nussmeier completed 28 of 38 passes for 232 yards and one touchdown. Nussemeier’s touchdown pass to TreyβDez Green in the fourth quarter was the difference for the Tigers.
LSU moves to No. 3 in the AP Poll, while Clemson (0-1) falls to No. 8.
In Week 2, No. 14 Florida State plays East Texas A&M, while No. 21 Alabama hosts Louisiana-Monroe.

The Alabama Crimson Tide (0-1) had much higher expectations for this season as they entered year two under Kalen DeBoer.
Mike Norvell and Florida State (1-0) had other plans.
Behind 230 rushing yards, the Seminoles bullied Alabama all day on their way to a 31-17 victory. The loss ends Alabama’s 23-game winning streak in season openers.
The Florida State benefited greatly from first-year coordinator Gus Malzahn’s running schemes. Seminoles’ quarterback Tommy Castellanos was the best player on the field, rushing for 78 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries. Castellanos also completed 9 of 14 passes for 152 yards.
DeBoer’s coaching seat is red-hot, with many passionate fans already calling for him to be fired.
