Amanda Anisimove waves to the crowd.

In the ultimate story of redemption, American Amanda Anisimova defeated Iga Swiatek in the US Open quarterfinals in straight sets, two months after losing 0-6, 0-6 to her in a heartbreaking fashion in the Wimbledon finals.

Anisimova, the Doha champion and Wimbledon finalist, was cheered on by the American fans as she shook off losing her serve in the first game of the match and turned around and broke Swiatek in the second game.

Amanda Anisimova had the confidence to make her shots and was bold and punishing to Swiatek’s second serve.

In the postgame press conference, she admitted that it was a satisfying win to a physical match. Anisimova said Swiatek is among the most difficult players to face on the WTA Tour.

Swiatek has been one of the hottest players on the WTA Tour this summer. In addition to winning Wimbledon, she won the Cincinnati Open. It will be the first time in three years that the Cincinnati Open champion does not win the US Open (2023: Coco Gauff and 2024: Aryna Sabalenka).

Who Will Amanda Anisimova Play Next?

Anisimova awaits the winner of the Karolina Muchova and Naomi Osaka Wednesday night match.

Amanda Anisimova has never lost to either player, with 1-0 and 2-0 head to head records against Muchova and Osaka, respectively.

She played Osaka in back to back 2022 Grand Slams: the Australian Open and French Open.

Anisimova’s win over Muchova was also in the third round of the 2022 French Open; Muchova was forced to retire with an injury in the deciding third set.

Can We Get An American US Open Final?

I know I am getting ahead of myself, but the idea of an all-American US Open final with two women who have never won a Grand Slam would be legendary.

Anisimova has work to do against the Osaka/Muchova winner, and Jessica Pegula gets her moment to change the scoreline from last year’s US Open final against Aryna Sabalenka.

The US Open women’s final will be telecast on ESPN at 4 PM on Saturday, September 6.
