2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens, who has been injured and out of the sport for the majority of the year, is making her return to the court this week in Guadalajara at its WTA 500 tournament.
Stephens has played just five matches in 2025 with a 2-3 record. Her ranking has dropped to 354th. She accepted a wildcard to play in Mexico. Fans are excited to see her back on the tennis court.

What Sloane Stephens Has Been Up To
The 32-year-old has still be active in the sport. She was part of the TNT broadcasting team that telecast the French Open and the ESPN broadcasting team at the US Open. Stephens has slayed with her tennis knowledge and her wardrobe.

While off the court, she also won the 2025 Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award, becoming the first tennis player to earn this illustrious honor.
Stephens has used her voice and platform as part of the WTA Players Council and in creating her foundation a decade ago to provide funds and opportunities for youth to get involved in tennis.
She has been public about delaying her plans to start a family because of her tennis career. Stephens froze her eggs and publicly praised the WTA for their new maternity leave benefits.
Stephens has eight career singles titles and one doubles title. She has made it to the quarterfinals or better at every Grand Slam. Besides the US Open win, her next best result in a Grand Slam was as a finalist at the 2018 French Open.
Sloane Stephens achieved a career-high World No. 3 ranking in July 2018.
Watching her game at its best is so much fun. Hopefully Stephens can achieve a good level after the long layoff. However, fans have seen her talent transcend the court so they know she has plenty of opportunities beyond playing, if or when she chooses to stop playing.
