Alcaraz last won the US Open in 2022. Sinner was the defending champion.
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have been the two best players in tennis for the past couple of years. Sinner has been the premier hardcourt player up until today. It is his first hardcourt loss in 28 matches.

Sinner won the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and Alcaraz is the French Open and US Open champion.
This tournament showed us a different Carlos Alcaraz. He was focused and on point the entire tournament. Alcaraz did not lose his serve until the final against Sinner.
