49ers Receive Tough Injury News On George Kittle & Brock Purdy

The San Francisco 49ers were victorious in their Week 1 matchup against the division rival Seattle Seahawks, but it may have come at a price. For a team that is already struggling with injuries up and down their roster, the news out of the team’s facilities on Monday add yet another level of frustration regarding the health of some of their most important players.

Injury News Not Good For Star Players On 49ers Roster

The 49ers entered the 2025 NFL season already thin in terms of pass catching depth. Brandon Aiyuk is still recovering from last year’s season ending injury, leaving quarterback Brock Purdy without his top wide receiver. Jacob Cowing and Trent Taylor started the year on the injured reserved list, forcing San Francisco to make training camp signings to help with their depth.

But things got even worse on Sunday. Jauan Jennings, who has the most experience and rapport with Purdy of all the remaining wideouts, went down with a shoulder ailment against Seattle. According to Adam Schefter, the 28-year-old’s MRI came back clean, though they are still awaiting the results of a CT scan to determine how much time, if any, he’ll miss.

The news about All-Pro tight end George Kittle was worse. Kittle made just one catch against the Seahawks before leaving the game in the first quarter with what appeared to be a lower leg injury. On Monday, Schefter announced that the tight end would miss “multiple weeks” while recovering, leaving yet another gaping hole in Purdy’s stable of weapons.

QB Brock Purdy’s Status For Week 2 Is Unknown

Purdy himself is dealing with his own ailments. As if they needed any more bad news, the 26-year-old quarterback’s status for next Sunday’s game in New Orleans is unknown, thanks to left shoulder and toe injuries sustained in Week 1.

If Purdy is unable to go against the Saints, then it would be Mac Jones who would step in to be the starting signal caller.

When the betting lines opened for Week 2, the 49ers were 6.5-point road favorites for Sunday’s matchup. Upon the release of the injury news for Kittle and Purdy, the line is already down to 4.5 as of Monday afternoon.
