What Is The Long Walk About?

“The only guarantee you have as a human being is that you are going to die,” Cooper Hoffman’s Raymond Garraty says in the trailer. “And, if you’re lucky, you get to choose how you spend your last moments.”

The young men in The Long Walk must choose between walking and dying. The boys must maintain a speed of three miles per hour. If they stop, they will be executed by the army that serves the totalitarian regime running the United States.

The last man standing wins anything he wants for the rest of his life. However, the boys quickly learn that there is no finish line to this race, meaning they could be walking for a long time.

The Long Walk stars Hoffman, David Jonsson, Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Roman Griffin Davis, Jordan Gonzalez, Josh Hamilton, Judy Greer, and Mark Hamill.

Francis Lawrence directs The Long Walk from a screenplay by JT Mollner. King wrote The Long Walk under the pseudonym Richard Bachman in 1979. Lawrence produces alongside Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, and Cameron MacConomy.

Lionsgate will release The Long Walk in theaters on September 12, 2025.
