It is a dark day in America. Whether your beliefs coincide with Charlie Kirk or not, your heart hurts for what happened in Utah today. Kirk, 31, was shot at Utah Valley University, and he leaves behind a wife, Erika, whom he married in 2021, and two young children.
The sports world reacted to the Charlie Kirk news with many X/Twitter postings.
Retired New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman wrote: “Doesn’t matter where you land in the political landscape. Violence like this is never acceptable. Praying for the family.”
Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel posted a picture of Kirk with his family and the message: “JESUS…be with us.”

Former MLB pitcher Curt Schilling said: “I cannot begin to express my condolences to his wife, and his 2 young children and the people of @TPUSA.” (Turning Point USA is the organization Kirk founded.)
Ex-NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III posted the following:
The Charlie Kirk Shooting was disturbing, disgusting and wrong.
Praying for Charlie Kirk’s wife, kids and family.
It’s okay to disagree with someone’s political views, but celebrating his death makes you a despicable human.
No one deserves to be gunned down for their beliefs.

Former MLB pitcher John Rocker wrote: “All Charlie Kirk did was have a respectful dialogue with people he disagreed with.”
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Joshua Hines-Allen wrote: “You don’t have to agree with Charlie Kirk or his views, but taking someone’s life over differences is never justified. The whole situation is tragic. Prayers and condolences to his family and loved ones.”
Kirk’s death is a reminder that despite our differences on issues, we are all humans, and this is not behavior we condone or accept in the United States of America.
Prayers to Charlie Kirk’s wife Erika and his family.
