The US Open is over, but tennis season is not. This is the time of year where we see ascending stars shine. That will be exemplified on Sunday as Indonesian Janice Tjen takes on French woman Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonoah.
Both women are on the cusp of being household names, and a win at the WTA 250 Sao Paulo Open is a stepping stone in that direction. (WTA tennis returned to Sao Paulo this year for the first time in 25 years.)
Janice Tjen
Tjen is perhaps more well-known. She is putting Indonesia on the tennis map. Tjen will be the first Indonesian to compete in a WTA final since 2002. She is currently ranked World No. 130. The 23-year-old Pepperdine University graduate has earned $211,00 in career prize money.

She has won 6 ITF titles and has recorded over 60 wins in 2025.
Tjen has not dropped a set throughout her Sao Paulo Open run including a decisive win over Filipina rising star Alexandra Eala.
Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonoah
Her name is a tongue twister, but the 19-year-old also goes by Sarah. She is currently ranked 214th in the world and has earned $161,000 in career prize money.
This is only her third WTA main draw appearance, and she was nearly ousted in the first round, coming back from a 0-5 deficit in the third set.
First Time Final!
Tiantsoa Rakotomanga was down 0-5 in the 3rd set of her 1st round match in Sao Paulo.
Tomorrow she’ll play for the title.
Tennis is crazy, y’all.

What’s At Stake
250 ranking points will be awarded to the winner, and 163 to the finalist.
$36,300 will be the winner’s check, and $21,484 will go to the finalist.
Both the points and the money could greatly help each woman. The costs associated with travel and coaching are sizeable.
