Due to a concussion suffered in Week 2, Fields has not been cleared and will not play in Week 3’s contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“When it comes to injuries, one person I can say is out right now would be Justin,” Glenn said during Wednesday’s press conference via Jets.com. “He’s still going through his protocol.”
Fields suffered the concussion in Sunday’s embarrassing 30-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Fields took a hit from the Bills’ edge rusher Joey Bosa, which knocked him out of the game.
Fields must pass all five steps of the league’s concussion protocol and be cleared by an independent neurologist before he’s allowed to suit up again.
It’s been a story of two games for Fields to start the season. Fields flashed franchise quarterback potential in Week 1’s 34-32 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Fields threw for 218 yards and one touchdown while rushing for 48 yards and two touchdowns.
It was a completely different story in Week 2. Fields finished 3 of 11 for 27 yards and zero touchdowns. The 26-year-old also rushed for 49 yards.

Taylor is one of the best veteran quarterback options off the bench.
Taylor is playing for his seventh NFL team in 15 seasons. Taylor has thrown for 12,310 yards, 69 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions with a 61.9 completion percentage.
The 36-year-old has a career record of 28–28–1.
Taylor led the Jets to their only touchdown in Week 2’s loss. Taylor finished 7 of 11 for 56 yards and one touchdown.
The veteran quarterback is 24 of 33 for 175 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions with a 72.7 completion percentage in limited action with the Jets.
Glenn is confident in the experienced Taylor to run the offense in Fields’ absence.
“There is no coverage, there is no pressure that he hasn’t seen,” Glenn said about Taylor. “So that’s why I have confidence in him, and he’s a very studious person, good athlete. Again, been around this league for a long time. There is no better player you would want as your backup quarterback than him at this point of time.”
Taylor has a tough task in front of him as the Jets (0-2) visit the Buccaneers (2-0) in Week 3. Tampa is coached by Todd Bowles, the former Jets head coach from 2015 to 2018. Bowles is the last Jets’ head coach to win 10 games in a season (2015).
