During Monday night’s 20-9 win, Mack left the game with an elbow injury. The initial fear was that Mack would have to miss the rest of the season. Mack was on the sidelines in a sling as the Chargers closed out the game.
Luckily for the Chargers, Mack’s injury will heal a lot faster than expected.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Mack suffered a dislocated elbow and is heading to injured reserve. Mack will miss at least four games.
Considering the Chargers thought they lost their talented edge rusher for the season, this diagnosis gives the team hope that Mack will return.
Mack hurt his elbow toward the end of the first quarter when he tried to reach and bring down a Raiders wide receiver. Mack went to the blue medical tent before leaving the field for the locker room.
Mack did not play the rest of the game. Earlier in the night, Mack recorded his first sack of the season.
Losing Mack for the short term is still a blow for this stingy Chargers’ defense, which has allowed the third fewest points this season (15.0 ppg).
The 34-year-old veteran is a former Defensive Player of the Year and nine-time Pro Bowl member, including the last three with the Chargers.
Mack has 32.0 sacks in a little over three seasons with the Chargers. Mack set his career high in sacks with 17.0 during the 2023 season.
2025 is the final year of Mack’s contract — a one-year, $18 million fully guaranteed extension.
With Mack out, the Chargers will rely on edge rushers Bud Dupree, Tuli Tuipulotu, and Caleb Murphy to generate pressure on the quarterback.

The Chargers are firing on all cylinders so far this season.
The Chargers finally overcame their Kansas City problem, defeating the Chiefs 27-21 in Week 1.
Justin Herbert played arguably his best game as a Charger. Herbert finished 25 of 34 for 318 yards and three touchdowns. Herbert also iced the game with a 19-yard scramble on third-and-long.
While the Chargers’ offense took center stage in Week 1, the defense was the story in Week 2.
Los Angeles’ defense held the Raiders to three field goals despite possessing the ball for around 32 minutes. The Chargers only allowed 218 yards of total offense and forced Geno Smith to throw three interceptions.
The Chargers (2-0) host the Denver Broncos (1-1) in Week 3.
