For the third time in a month, a Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender has passed away. On Sunday, Bernie Parent of Montreal, Quebec, died at the age of 80. He follows Ken Dryden and Ed Giacomin. Parent is best known of his time with the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1970s, but also played a brief time with the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs. Here is the reaction from X.
The hockey community lost a legend. Bernie Parent was a true pioneer who inspired goalies like me and so many others. His talent, confidence, and personality changed the game forever. My condolences to his family and friends. pic.twitter.com/3AoqsivjmF

A Maple Leaf from 1970–72, Parent shared the crease with Jacques Plante in one of the game’s iconic tandems before going on to capture back-to-back Vezina and Conn Smythe Trophies, two Stanley Cups with Philadelphia,… pic.twitter.com/OhJ4yuR9BP

Not many may remember Parent’s time with the Maple Leafs. He played 65 gamed with the Blue and White from 1971 to 1972. Parent was traded from the Flyers to the Maple Leafs with a second round pick in the 1971 NHL Draft (Maple Leafs selected right winger Rick Kehoe of Windsor, Ontario) for a first round pick in the NHL Draft (Flyers selected right winger Pierre Plante of Valleyfield, Quebec), goaltender Bruce Gamble of Port Arthur, Ontario, and center Mike Walton of Kirkland Lake, Ontario.
Parent played 65 games for the Leafs, and had a record of 24-25-12, with three shutouts, a goals against average of 2.57 and a save percentage of .915. He was then traded back to the Flyers on May 15, 1973.

Parent was honoured during the Eagles game against the Los Angeles Rams. It was quite the comeback for the Eagles as they were once down 26-7 before winning 33-26.

Parent was a primary reason why the Flyers won their two Stanley Cups. Philadelphia beat the Boston Bruins in six games in 1974 and the Buffalo Sabres in six games in 1975.
