Three weeks into the NFL season, the MVP race is already heating up. Last year’s MVP race was a two-horse race between Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, but there are plenty of players making their case to be named the Most Valuable Player in 2025. Allen leads the list of contenders but it is still a very close race with Jackson and Justin Herbert not far behind. Other players in the mix include Jordan Love, Jayden Daniels, and Baker Mayfield while a few darkhorse candidates are beginning to emerge as well. Below, we’ll break down the latest NFL MVP odds, uncover the favorites, and reveal the best darkhorse candidates heading into Week 4.

2025 NFL MVP Favorites
Let’s compare how the top three players on the odds board have fared to start the season and how team success might play a role in who emerges later this year.
Josh Allen — QB, Buffalo Bills (+250)

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen remains the favorite to win the award for the second straight season.
Allen has been nearly perfect thus far, throwing for 755 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions while completing a career-best 69.7% of his passes. He’s also added 114 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
At +250 odds, Allen sits atop the board. If he wins, Allen would become just the sixth player ever to win back-to-back MVP awards and the first player to accomplish the feat since Aaron Rodgers in 2020 and 2021.
The Bills are 3-0 after a stunning comeback over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1. Buffalo has one of the league’s easiest schedules with only four games against potential playoff teams left to go. Buffalo will play Kansas City in Week 9, Tampa Bay in Week 11, and Pittsburgh in Week 13 before taking on the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17.
If the Bills run the table or go 15-2, it will be hard to keep the award away from Allen.
Lamar Jackson — QB, Baltimore Ravens (+325)

Lamar Jackson may have deserved the MVP Award last year more than Allen after throwing for 41 touchdowns and only four interceptions while rushing for 915 yards.
Known primarily as a dual-threat quarterback, the Ravens superstar has made significant strides as a passer and is on pace to eclipse last year’s totals through the air.
In three games, he leads the NFL with nine touchdown passes and no interceptions. He’s completed 72% of his passes while averaging a healthy 9.6 yards per attempt, both career-highs.
While his rushing stats are slightly down, he’s still on pace to rush for 668 yards but the Ravens slow start has knocked him down on this list.
Justin Herbert — QB, Los Angeles Chargers (+425)

L.A. Chargers QB Justin Herbert has the Chargers off to an impressive 3-0 start after early season wins over the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos.
Herbert leads the league in passing with 860 yards to go along with six touchdowns and one interception on the season. The 27-year-old has also been willing to move the chains with his legs, which has helped the Chargers keep drives alive during their 3-0 start.
Herbert will have a chance to bolster his MVP case in the coming weeks with a trio of plus-matchups against the NY Giants, Washington Commanders, and Miami Dolphins.
If Los Angeles manages to dethrone the Chiefs atop the AFC West, Herbert will remain in the MVP conversation throughout the 2025 season.
Which Darkhorse Candidates Have The Best Chance To Win?
These players might not sit atop the odds board but they’ve done enough to warrant some consideration early in the season. If the ball continues to bounce their way or if some of the favorites begin to falter, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see any one of these quarterbacks take home the award in 2025.
Baker Mayfield — QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+1800)

The Bucs are among a handful of teams that are undefeated through three weeks and Baker Mayfield is a big reason why. Mayfield has picked up right where he left off a year ago, throwing for you 615 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions. Perhaps more surprisingly, he also rushed for more yards (116) than Josh Allen (114) through three weeks, albeit without a rushing touchdown.
More importantly, Mayfield has already engineered three last-minute comebacks. Tampa Bay could have easily been 0-3 during this latest stretch without Baker’s heroics, as they’ve won all three games by a combined six points.
Tampa Bay looks primed to win the NFC South and the Bucs will finish off the season by playing the Saints, Falcons, Panthers (twice), and the Dolphins.
Daniel Jones — QB, Indianapolis Colts (+5000)

It’s hard to believe that Daniel Jones has entered the MVP conversation but that’s exactly what’s happened following the Colts 3-0 start.
Jones appears to have made some nice strides under head coach Shane Streichen. He’s third in the league in passing yards (816) and leads the league in QBR (85.6) by a fairly wide margin. Jones is second behind only Lamar Jackson in yards per attempt (9.3) and has also rushed for three scores on the ground through three weeks.
His numbers might be even better had it not been for a pair of blowout wins versus the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans.
With the Colts emerging as one of the surprise stories in the NFL this season, it’s only right to see Jones get some credit where it’s due.
