Jaguars vs. 49ers Odds and Predictions

What is going on with the Jaguars’ offense? Credit to Jacksonville’s defense for carrying the team to a 2-1 record.

However, Trevor Lawrence is struggling to pick up Liam Coen’s offense through three games. Lawrence ranks 23rd in QBR (43.0) to go along with 671 passing yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions.

Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. is off to a sluggish start — 7 receptions for 115 yards and zero touchdowns. This is a receiver that many thought could be top 5 at the position by the end of the season.

Thomas isn’t the only issue with the Jaguars’ pass catchers. Jacksonville is the only team in the NFL with over 10 drops (14).

Lawrence and the Jaguars now head to San Francisco to play an excellent 49ers defense that ranks third in scoring (16.3), fourth in total yards (265.7), fourth against the run (76.3), and fifth against the pass (162.0).

Losing Nick Bosa for the season is a devastating loss for this defense. Perhaps Bryce Huff can be a double-digit sack player again.

Mac Jones filled in admirably for the injured Brock Purdy by winning the last two games. Brock Purdy is trending toward playing against the Jaguars. If Kyle Shanahan announces Purdy as the starter, expect the line to go to 4 or 4.5.

The Jaguars hate the West Coast — 3-12 ATS in the last 15 games. Until the Jaguars fix their offensive problems, I’ll side with Shanahan and the 49ers.

Pick: 49ers -3 (-115)

Jaguars vs. 49ers Prop

Christian McCaffrey is the best 49ers wide receiver right now.

McCaffrey has a team-leading 25 receptions with 213 receiving yards.

McCaffrey has registered at least six receptions for 50 yards in all three games. Until the 49ers’ quarterbacks get away from being “Checkdown Charlie,” I’ll keep backing McCaffrey’s receiving prop.

Pick: Christian McCaffrey Over 45.5 Receiving Yards (-114)
