Pittsburgh Steelers QB Skylar Thompson Was A Victim In Scary Incident In Ireland

The NFL continues its push into becoming a worldwide phenomenon with a Week 4 matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, Ireland. However, things got off to a rocky start as Steelers backup quarterback Skylar Thompson was robbed on Friday night.

Thompson is currently on IR and inactive for the game. He traveled with the team and reportedly many of the players brought friends and family along for the trip. It is not clear the circumstances behind Thompson’s robbery other than he was “jumped and robbed.” He suffered minor injuries but is reportedly okay, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

The Steelers are not sharing details about the incident with the public. Rather, the team is working with NFL security.

Security has been a persistent concern for the NFL as it shares its product outside of the US.

When the Eagles played the Packers in Sao Paulo, Brazil, last season, players were encouraged to not wear green for safety reasons. This was an interesting directive considering both teams’ primary color is green.

NFL International Schedule

The Steelers vs. the Vikings is the first international game of the season.

Five more are on the schedule.

The Vikings stay in Europe for a Week 5 game in London against the Cleveland Browns.

Weeks 7 and 8 continue with London games include matchups between the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets and the Los Angeles Rams and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In November, two additional games are scheduled in Berlin and Madrid, respectively, with the Falcons vs. the Colts on November 9 and the Commanders vs. the Dolphins on November 16.
