Kevin Durant Calls Jayson Tatum’s Achilles Rehab “Insane”

Kevin Durant knows all about the rehab process for a torn Achilles. So it bodes well for Jayson Tatum in his recovery when Durant refers to it as “insane”.

Kevin Durant Comments On Jayson Tatum’s Rehab Process

Tatum suffered the unfortunate injury at one of the most inopportune times. He and the Boston Celtics were down 2-1 in their Eastern Conference semi-finals matchup with the New York Knicks, and were fighting to keep their dream of back-to-back championships alive.

But late in Game 4, the 27-year-old Tatum ruptured his right Achilles tendon while diving for a loose ball. It not only ended his season early, but the general thought was that he would likely miss the entirety of the 2025-26 season as well.

Jayson Tatum is doing everything he can to make sure that isn’t the case. On Saturday, a video was uploaded to his YouTube account that provided a revealing update. Footage showed Tatum running, lifting, shooting, and even engaging in some on-court activities.

The video made the rounds, and new Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant chimed in. Durant reposted the Tatum clip, and included the following caption:

“Insane. Let’s get it JT”

Durant suffered the same injury in a postseason game in 2019. It ultimately changed the trajectory of the NBA Finals series against the Toronto Raptors, which the Golden State Warriors would end up losing. He would sit out an entire season during the 2019-2020 campaign, and there were questions about whether he would be the same player when he came back.

What made Durant’s return so remarkable is not only that he came back, but that he returned still playing at an elite level. The injury, once thought of as a potential career-ender, instead added to his legacy by showcasing his ability to adapt and evolve his game.

Celtics fans are hoping that Tatum’s recovery will follow suit.

NBA teams are currently in training camps across the country, and the upcoming season tips off in less than a month.
