The New York Giants made a quarterback change this past week, benching Russell Wilson and promoting rookie Jaxson Dart into the starting role. There were doubts about how the young signal caller would perform in his first NFL start, but he played well enough to lead his team to their first victory of the season.
Jaxson Dart Leads Giants To Win In His NFL Debut
The Giants entered Week 4 with an 0-3 record, and had admitted defeat in the Russell Wilson project. After a poor performance in Week 3, the team announced that the veteran would be replaced, and that Jaxson Dart would be under center for Sunday’s game against the Chargers.
Oddsmakers didn’t give New York much of a chance, as they listed Los Angeles as a 6-point favorite despite being the road team.
Dart delivered. He started off with a bang on his first drive, leading the Giants 89 yards down field and capping off the possession with a 15-yard touchdown scamper. He had his first career touchdown pass in the third quarter, and finished 13 for 20 for 111 yards.

By using his legs, Dart was able to pick up 54 rushing yards, which helped in willing his team to an upset victory. He didn’t commit a single turnover.
Though his statistical performance doesn’t jump off of the page, it is one of the better dual-threat debuts that we have seen in some time. On Sunday, Jaxson Dart joined Tim Tebow as the only players since 2000 to have a pass touchdown, rushing touchdown, and 50+ rushing yards in their first NFL starts.
Can Dart keep the solid play rolling? Next week’s game is against the New Orleans Saints, who came into Week 4 with a bottom-10 defense, but there will be some tough competition in the following weeks. In the span of four games, the Giants will take on the Broncos and the 49ers, as well as two dates against the Eagles.
