San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy missed just two weeks while recovering from a toe injury, and the team’s medical staff may have jumped the gun. After a game marred by his mistakes that earned the 49ers their first loss of the 2025 NFL season, there are now questions surrounding the highly-paid quarterback, and his health is once again an issue.
NFL Rumors: Brock Purdy Still Dealing With Toe Soreness
Purdy originally suffered the toe injury during the first game of the season. It was Mac Jones who came on in relief, and the 49ers were able to start 3-0 despite the injury problems up and down their roster. Jones received some praise for his performances in keeping San Francisco afloat, but was relegated back to the sidelines upon Purdy’s return in Week 4.
Things may have been a bit rushed. Brock Purdy was able to log over 300 passing yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars in his first game back, but he made crucial mistakes that ultimately cost his team a chance at victory. He threw two interceptions in addition to his two touchdowns, and fumbled the ball away late in the fourth quarter to seal the loss.

I think it's a question if he's gonna be able to get back out there on Thursday night" @AdamSchefter #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/u9ST6X1gGT

There was an assumption that Purdy was still dealing with pain in the injured toe, and that was essentially confirmed on Monday. During his appearance on the Pat McAfee show, NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed that Purdy is experiencing toe soreness, and says that the quarterback’s status for Week 5 is in question.
He won’t have much time to heal. The 49ers have a quick turnaround this week, and will travel to Los Angeles to take on the Rams on Thursday night. There hasn’t been an official statement from the team on Purdy’s status, but things should be more clear by Tuesday.
San Francisco suffered their first loss on Sunday, and are now facing what will likely be the toughest part of their schedule. After taking on the Rams on a short week, they will remain on the road and travel cross-country to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6. That will be followed by a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.
