The “9-9-9 Challenge” has been gaining popularity at baseball games during the 2025 season, and the Philadelphia Phillies are leading into the viral social media craze for the NLDS.
Phillies Unveil “9-9-9 Challenge” Box For 2025 Postseason
The premise is simple but extreme: eat nine hot dogs and drink nine beers over the course of a nine-inning baseball game. Some versions require consuming one of each per inning, while others allow participants to set their own pace. The challenge has circulated among fans for over a decade, with early mentions dating back to the 2010s, but it has gained new life through TikTok, YouTube, and other social platforms.

Stadium promotions like Dollar Dog Night or parks with looser drink policies have helped keep the tradition alive, and there was even once a website that tracked “leaderboard” attempts.
The Phillies have made life easier for those attempting the stomach-filling challenge. As a part of their new postseason menu for the 2025 Playoffs, team concession stands are selling “9-9-9 Challenge” boxes, ready-made with all of the materials needed for a full game: 9 beers and 9 hotdogs. It is unclear exactly how much the box will cost.
How Hard Is The 9-9-9 Challenge?
Pulling off the feat isn’t an easy task. Modern MLB games tend to run shorter than they used to, giving participants little time to work with—roughly 18 minutes per inning on average. Stadium rules add more obstacles, since many parks limit alcohol purchases per trip or cut off sales after the seventh inning.
Having the ready-made box in front of you all game certainly helps with some aspects of the process, but one can’t help but imagine the cold hot dogs and warm beers that will be consumed during the later innings.

Will it count if Phillies fans finish the box? The hot dogs in their offering are described as “fun sized”, while the beers are “petite”.
Countless fans have documented their own tries online, with results ranging from triumphant to disastrous. Still, the stunt comes with serious caveats—it requires legal drinking age, responsible planning for transportation, and awareness of the health risks involved in downing that much food and alcohol so quickly. For most, it’s less about glory and more about being able to say they gave one of baseball’s most infamous fan challenges a shot.
The Phillies will be taking on the Dodgers during the National League Division Series, and Game 1 is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
