The Hurricanes are one spot away from the nation’s top ranking.
No. 3 Miami jumped out to a 25-point lead before holding on to defeat No. 18 Florida State 28-22.
Carson Beck moved into the Heisman race after finishing 20 of 27 for 241 yards and four touchdowns.
Miami wide receivers Malachi Toney and CJ Daniels each finished with two touchdown receptions.
With Oregon idle, Miami moved to No. 2 in the AP poll. It’s Miami’s highest ranking since October 2023.
At 5-0, the Hurricanes will be favored in every game for the rest of the regular season.
Miami has the week off before returning to action on Oct. 17 against Louisville.

Coming into the season, the Texas Longhorns and Penn State Nittany Lions were ranked first and second in the AP poll. After losing to unranked opponents, the two teams have fallen out of the top 25.
The Longhorns could not overcome Florida in the Swamp, losing 29-21. Texas is unranked for the first time since November 2022.
Arch Manning’s struggles continued, throwing for 263 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
Texas (3-2) had national title aspirations. Now, they will likely have to win out to make the College Football Playoff.
The same can be said for Penn State, who were upset against the previously winless UCLA.
No. 7 Penn State fell out of the polls after a 42-37 loss to UCLA. The Bruins came into this game a week after firing their head coach.
Texas faces No. 11 Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout, and Penn State (3-2) faces Northwestern.

— Alabama Football (@AlabamaFTBL) October 7, 2025
In 2024, Vanderbilt shocked the college football world with an upset victory over Alabama.
This year, Alabama did not let history repeat itself. No. 10 Alabama defeated No. 16 Vanderbilt by a score of 30-14.
Alabama forced Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia to commit two turnovers in the red zone, which was the difference in the game.
Since losing to Florida State, Alabama has won four consecutive games.
No. 8 Alabama goes on the road to play No. 14 Missouri on Oct. 11.
