NBA Predictions: Can The OKC Thunder Win 70 Games This Season?

The Oklahoma City Thunder won 68 games last season, becoming just the 7th team in NBA history to reach that mark. Can they do even better than that during the upcoming 2025-26 campaign? At least one front office insider believes that they can get to 70 wins this year.

Can OKC Become Third 70-Win NBA Team Of All Time?

The Thunder finished off last season by winning their first championship since they were the Seattle SuperSonics. The 2024-25 season served as a massive leap forward for OKC, establishing them as one of the NBA’s elite teams. They were dominant during the regular season, posting the highest point differential in the history of the league (+12.87), and eventually defeated the Indiana Pacers in a hard-fought NBA Finals series.

Expectations may be even higher in 2025-26. According to the ESPN BET Sportsbook, the Thunder have an over/under win total of 62.5, easily the highest figure in the league. In fact, it is the highest projected win total since the 2017-18 Golden State Warriors were pegged at 67.5.

One NBA Insider Says 70 Victories Is Possible

Those Warriors with Steph Curry and Kevin Durant finished well under their projected total by notching 58 victories, but this year’s Thunder won’t suffer the same fate.

At least not according to ESPN NBA insider Bobby Marks. On Wednesday’s episode of NBA Today, the cast was discussing OKC’s potential, especially in relation to the win total set for them by the sportsbooks.

When asked if the Thunder would be able to eclipse their 62.5 total, Marks said the following:

“They’re not going to hit 60 (wins). They’re going to hit 70…I think even if there’s games where Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren take the night off, this team has enough depth to get to 70 wins in the Western Conference.”

If the Thunder are able to somehow reach that figure, they would be just the third team in NBA history to do so. The Chicago Bulls set the standard by going 72-10 in 1995-96, a mark that was only bested by the 2015-16 Warriors, who won 73. No team has ever finished with exactly 70 wins, or even 71 for that matter.

The season will start out with a bang, as Kevin Durant and the new-look Houston Rockets will be in town for opening night on October 21st. Durant, once a member of the Thunder, will watch his former team receive their championship rings and raise the banner inside Paycom Center.
