No team had a bigger win in Week 5 than the New England Patriots.
New England went into Buffalo as a 9-point underdog and won outright against the undefeated Bills 23-20.
Drake Maye had his coming-out party as a franchise quarterback, finishing 22 of 30 for 273 yards, including 13 of 14 in the second half. Maye made big throw after big throw, especially in the second half.
Maye’s arm strength and athleticism carried the Patriots on their final 7-play, 37-yard drive that ended with the game-winning field goal at 15 seconds in the fourth quarter.
Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs, Josh Allen’s former No. 1 wide receiver for a year, played like a man possessed, finishing with 10 receptions for 146 yards.
This win is why the Patriots hired Mike Vrabel, who schemed up a defense that forced three turnovers.
Speaking of wins, Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler picked up his first victory in the NFL, a 26-14 triumph over the New York Giants.
Rattler finished 21 of 31 for 225 yards and one touchdown. The speedster Rashid Shaheed caught four receptions for 114 yards and one touchdown.
After a huge win against the Bills, the public is going to be backing the Patriots, and for good reason. The Patriots’ schedule opens up, paving a way for them to potentially earn a playoff spot with a 9-8 record.
I can’t help but think that this game is an emotional letdown for the Pats. The Saints are better than their 1-4 record. The Saints have either had the lead or been down by one possession in the fourth quarter in four of their five games.
Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez strengthened the Patriots’ secondary, but the defense still ranks 26th against the pass (242.2). The Pats might win, but the Saints can keep this within a field goal.

Kamara also suffered an ankle injury that has limited him in practice. If Kamara plays, he faces a Pats’ defense that ranks third in run stop win rate (35%).
