Through the first five weeks of the NFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers are 3-1 and first in the AFC North.
Baltimore is dealing with numerous injuries and could face a 1-5 record entering their week 7 bye as Lamar Jackson is unlikely to suit up against the Los Angeles Rams.
Here are the AFC North division standings after week five:
- 1. Pittsburgh Steelers 3-1
- 2. Cincinnati Bengals 2-3
- 3. Baltimore Ravens 1-4
- 4. Cleveland Browns 1-4
The Las Vegas Raiders are 1-4 after week five, and have lost four straight games.
WR Jakobi Meyers became disgruntled during the offseason because he and the Raiders could not agree to a contract extension as the veteran entered the final year of his current deal.
The Pittsburgh Steelers Should Target WR Jakobi Meyers At NFL Trade Deadline
With the Raiders starting 1-4, with little chance to recover in a tough AFC West, there is a good chance that WR Jakobi Meyers is available at the trade deadline.
The Pittsburgh Steelers need a WR2 behind D.K. Metcalf. When you talk about true No. 2 wide receivers, Meyers is one of the better ones out there and has one of the surest pair of hands in the NFL.
Meyers has four seasons of 800+ receiving yards and is coming off his career best 1,027 yards last season, catching passes from Garner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell throwing the ball to him. If you were to build the kind of No. 2 wide receiver the Steelers need in a lab, he would look a lot like Meyers.
It would not cost the Steelers a lot to acquire Jakobi Meyers. A 2026 fourth-round pick will likely get the job done. This is a no-brainer move if that is the cost for Meyers.
Jakobi Meyers has 290 receiving yards this season, despite Geno Smith playing poorly. This would lead the Steelers in receiving yards, although Meyers has played one more game than Metcalf.
Meyers Can Help Steelers Win AFC North
The Steelers are slightly favored to win the AFC North, according to DraftKings Sportsbooks. Here are the AFC North odds from DraftKings:
- 1. Pittsburgh Steelers (-105)
- 2. Baltimore Ravens (+115)
- 3. Cincinnati Bengals (+1700)
- 4. Cleveland Browns (+1900)
Pittsburgh has a challenging schedule.
Here is the Steelers’ schedule rest of the season:
- Week 6: vs Cleveland Browns
- Week 7: @ Cincinnati Bengals
- Week 8: vs Green Bay Packers
- Week 9: vs Indianapolis Colts
- Week 10: @ Los Angeles Chargers
- Week 11: vs Cincinnati Bengals
- Week 12: @ Chicago Bears
- Week 13: vs Buffalo Bills
- Week 14: @ Baltimore Ravens
- Week 15: vs Miami Dolphins
- Week 16: @ Detroit Lions
- Week 17: @ Cleveland Browns
- Week 18: vs Baltimore Ravens
Meyers can help the Steelers win some of those games that will be tough tests against teams like the Colts, Chargers, and Bears.
A true WR2 is exactly what the Steelers need for their offense, and Meyers with Metcalf is a formidable duo.
Pittsburgh is going to be considered an underdog in most of its remaining games and needs another weapon at WR.
Jakobi Meyers makes the most sense for the Steelers to target at the NFL trade deadline.
If Not Jakobi Meyers, Here Are Other WR Options The Steelers Can Target
Another team unlikely to do anything this season is the New Orleans Saints.
Two possible WRs from the Saints the Steelers should target are Chris Olave or Rashid Shaheed.
Shaheed may be the more realistic candidate. He is a speedy WR that the Steelers lack.
Pittsburgh needs to make a move at the trade deadline and add a WR2 behind Metcalf. The WRs currently on the roster are not cutting it for the Steelers. Jonnu Smith and Pat Freiermuth are not panning out as second options in the passing game behind Metcalf.
The Steelers should target Jakobi Meyers first, but if that does not pan out, Olave or Shaheed also make sense. Either one of those three WRs will help the Steelers’ offense.
