Jaxson Dart, Cam Skattebo Climb Up NFL Rookie Of The Year Ladder

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka is still the betting favorite to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. But after their impressive performances on Thursday night, the two rookies running the New York Giants offense are climbing up the odds board.

Dart, Skattebo Impress In Their First NFL Prime Time Games

Dart began getting some consideration for the award as soon as he was named the starting quarterback. Coming into the week, his Rookie of the Year designation was at +550, the fourth-lowest figure of any player and well behind Egbuka at +110.

Those figures changed after the young signal caller’s performance against the Philadelphia Eagles. In leading his team to a 34-17 upset victory, Dart completed 17 of his 25 pass attempts for a total of 195 yards and a touchdown, and was mistake-free in the turnover department. He added another 58 yards on 13 rushing attempts, and scored a touchdown with his legs, as well.

Dart was gritty and tough in his first prime time performance, and helped pull a divisional upset victory against a Super Bowl contender. After the game, his NFL OROY odds dropped to +350, now ahead of Ashton Jeanty at +400.

His teammate has joined the race as well. Running back Cam Skattebo was the main producer for the Giants offense against the Eagles, as he racked up 110 total yards on tough, hard-nosed running, and scored all three touchdowns that Dart wasn’t responsible for. He now has five rushing TDs which is one off of the league lead, and three more than fellow rookie Jeanty.

Thanks to his efforts, Skattebo now has a Rookie of the Year odds designation of +1600, the seventh-shortest of any player.

Giants Have 2nd-Toughest Remaining Schedule

If the two Giants teammates remain near the top of the board for the next few weeks, it will bode well for New York’s chances at pushing for a postseason spot. They still have seven games to play before their Week 14 bye, and five of them are on the road. Their opponents include the Broncos, Eagles, Lions, 49ers, and Packers, all of whom are shaping up to be playoff teams by season’s end.

In fact, only one other NFL team (Arizona Cardinals) has a tougher schedule down the stretch than the New York Giants.
