Columbus Blue Jackets right winger Kirill Marchenko of Barnaul, Russia recorded his fourth career National Hockey League hat trick on Saturday. He accomplished the feat in a 7-4 Blue Jackets win over the Minnesota Wild. This was the Blue Jackets’s first win of the season.
Marchenko’s first goal of the evening put the Blue Jackets up 2-0 at the seven second mark of the second period. It was an all-Russian goal as Dmitri Voronkov of Angarsk, Russia and defenseman Ivan Provorov of Yaroslavl, Russia picked up the assists.
What was fascinating about Marchenko’s goal was how quickly he was able to score off the opening faceoff to begin the second period.
Marchenko’s goal makes it 2-0 just seven seconds into the second period, which is the fastest goal to start a period in franchise history, per @BlueJacketsPR.

Marchenko then put the Blue Jackets up 3-2 with one minute and 12 seconds left in the second period. All-star defenseman Zach Werenski of Grosse Pointe, Michigan and Voronkov had the assists. Marchenko then registered the hat trick with the game-winning goal at 3:01 of the third period. Werenski and Blue Jackets captain Boone Jenner of Dorchester, Ontario picked up the assists on the power-play as the Blue Jackets took a 5-2 lead at the time.
Third hat trick of the 2025-26 NHL regular season
Marchenko is the third player this season to register a hat trick in 2025-26. The difference is that Marchenko led the Blue Jackets to a victory. The first two players who had a hat trick this season actually lost. The first was Pavel Dorofeyev of Nizhny Tagil, Russia in a 6-5 Vegas Golden Knights loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday. The second was Kyle Connor of Shelby Township, Michigan in a 5-4 Winnipeg Jets loss to the Dallas Stars on Thursday.
Marchenko’s three prior hat tricks
Marchenko’s first NHL hat trick came on January 7, 2023 in a 4-3 Blue Jackets win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Marchenko’s second NHL hat trick came on December 19, 2023 in a 9-4 Blue Jackets win over the Buffalo Sabres. Marchenko’s third NHL hat trick came on April 1, 2025 in an 8-4 Blue Jackets win over the Nashville Predators.
