The Tennessee Titans have fired head coach Brian Callahan. Who will be the next head coach of the Titans?

Six games into his second season as the head coach, Callahan is out in Tennessee.
The Titans informed Callahan of the decision on Monday.
“After extended conversations with our owner and general manager, we met with Brian Callahan this morning to tell him we are making a change at head coach,” Titans President of Football Operations Chad Brinker said in a statement. “These decisions are never easy, and they become more difficult when they involve people of great character. We are grateful for Brian’s investment in the Titans and Tennessee community during his tenure as head coach. We thank him and his family for being exemplary ambassadors of the Tennessee Titans.”
The Titans hired Callahan, the offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals, to be their next head coach in January 2024.
Callahan went 3-14 in 2024 and secured the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft. The Titans selected Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the first pick.
With Ward under center, the Titans are 1-5 through six games, including Sunday’s 20-10 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Titans have arguably the worst offense in football, ranking 31st in scoring (13.8 points per game), passing yards (150.5 per game), and rushing yards (81.8 per game). The Titans are last in total yards per game (232.3).
Ward described the offense as “ass” earlier this season. The Titans cannot protect Ward, who has been sacked a league-leading 25 times.
Callahan gave up his playcalling duties last month to quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree. In the end, it didn’t matter, as the Titans decided to go in a different direction.
Callahan becomes the latest coach fired in a disturbing trend. The last four quarterbacks selected No. 1 overall have seen their head coaches fired during their rookie seasons.

Who Will the Titans Hire as Their Next Head Coach?
The Titans have not named an interim head coach. However, the team will now begin searching for a permanent head coach.
Because the Titans have Ward, it’s likely the Titans will try to hire an offensive-minded head coach.
Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady are two names to keep an eye. Brady would be a first-time coach, while Kingsbury coached the Arizona Cardinals for four seasons, leading them to the playoffs in 2021.
Mike McCarthy, Jon Gruden, and Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy could garner interest from the Titans.
On the defensive side of the ball, Vikings DC Brian Flores, Chargers DC Jesse Minter, and North Carolina HC Bill Belichick could potentially be in the running.
The Titans’ head coach before Brian Callahan, Mike Vrabel, returns to Tennessee this Sunday with the New England Patriots (4-2).
