Monday night was by far the biggest win of the Michael Penix Era. Penix finished 20 of 32 for 250 yards and one touchdown in the Falcons’ 24-14 victory.
The best player on the field was Bijan Robinson, who finished with a career-best 238 yards from scrimmage, including an 81-yard touchdown run.
Drake London did his part in the passing game with 10 receptions for 158 yards and one touchdown.
Atlanta is over .500 because their defense is ranked first in total defense (253.4 yards per game) and passing defense (139.4 yards per game). The Falcons held Josh Allen and the Bills to 291 yards of total offense.
If Atlanta’s defense is going to hold teams to 20 points or less, they have enough firepower on offense to win the majority of their games. The Falcons have to learn how to build on their momentum — 11-22-1 ATS after a win since 2020.
The San Francisco 49ers might have the worst injury luck in the NFL.
Last week, the 49ers lost their most important defender, linebacker Fred Warner, for the season in a 30-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The 49ers must play the rest of the season without Warner and edge rusher Nick Bosa. The 49ers are 7-14 SU without Bosa.
Injuries have also plagued the offense. Brock Purdy has been limited in practice, while George Kittle will try to play his first game since Week 1. Ricky Pearsall is trending toward missing another game.
Even if Purdy can’t go, Mac Jones is 3-1 as the starter.
All signs point toward the Falcons beating a depleted 49ers team. Until the Falcons can prove they can string together two good games in a row, I’ll trust Kyle Shanahan at home with Christian McCaffrey and a potential return of Kittle.

The Falcons’ secondary has been excellent all season. Meanwhile, Atlanta’s rushing defense is ranked 17th (114 yards per game).
Christian McCaffrey is on pace to catch over 100 balls — 46 receptions through six games.
Atlanta surrenders 82 yards per game to opposing running backs. Because of Atlanta’s excellent passing defense, this is the game McCaffrey breaks out on the ground.
