Tennis fans hoped it was not true, but Holger Rune confirmed what his initial suspicion was regarding his debilitating injury that forced him out of the BNP Paribas Nordic Open.
Rune took to social media to say that he has a torn Achilles tendon, and surgery is imminent.
What Holger Rune Said
Rune admitted that it will be a while before he is on the tennis court again. Fans have speculated it could be late 2026 or 2027.
He talked about the joy he was experiencing while playing in Stockholm which makes the injury even more heartbreaking.
Rune concluded by thanking the fans for their support.
Holger Rune confirms the worst news possible.
It’s unlikely we will see him on court before the US Open and that’s if all goes perfect with his rehab.

Jack Draper Addressed Rune Injury
Draper did not mention Rune by name, but he talked about the injuries and the endless tennis calendar.
“Injuries are going to happen… we are pushing our bodies to do things they aren’t supposed to in elite sport. We have so many incredible younger guys on the tour right now and I’m proud to be apart of that, however, the tour and the calendar have to adapt if any of us are gonna achieve some sort of longevity….”
Taylor Fritz Commented On Draper’s Post
“Facts, also seeing more injuries and burnout now than ever before because balls, courts, conditions have slowed down a lot making the weekly grind even more physically demanding and tough on the body.”
Taylor Fritz has been talking about changing balls at tournaments for years as a factor that can contribute to player upper-body injuries. Ball and court conditions change weekly for tennis players.
Some fans objected as they mentioned that Fritz just played the Six Kings Slam (and Draper was supposed to also before getting injured) which is not a recognized event on the ATP calendar.
There are plenty of tournaments and a growing number of extra events and discussion on the ATP (and WTA) calendar. It is not clear if it will ever effectively be resolved.
