Mac Jones is having something of a career resurgence with the San Francisco 49ers in 2025. And thanks to a clause in the two-year, $8.4 million contract that he signed with the team in the offseason, he earned nearly half a million dollars in bonuses after his team’s win against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night.
49ers Win Secures A Nice Bonus For QB Mac Jones
He signed on as a backup, but Jones was quickly thrust into the starting role earlier this season. Brock Purdy, who had inked a massive deal to become the team’s franchise quarterback, suffered a turf toe injury in Week 1 that has allowed him to play in just two games so far. It has been Jones who has been getting a brunt of the workload, and he made his 5th start of the season against the Falcons in Week 7.

The 27-year-old former 15th overall pick has performed well. He is now 4-1 on the year, and his 280 yards per game average currently leads the league. He has the 49ers sitting with a 5-2 record atop the NFC West, and has created a budding quarterback controversy amongst a section of the 49ers fan base on social media.
Jones Will Earn $100k For Each Additional Victory
Jones is also becoming richer. A clause in the contract that he signed in the offseason says that for every win that he picks up in games in which he plays at least 25% of the snaps, he’ll earn $100,000. But that wasn’t set to kick in until he reached the four-win plateau, which he did on Sunday night. He is now due a $400,000 bonus for the victories that he has picked up thus far, and will add another $100,000 for each one that follows.

If he happens to play in 50% of the regular season snaps and the 49ers make it to the playoffs, there will be another $550,000 bonus in store for Jones.
Will Brock Purdy Return In Week 8?
How much will Mac Jones be able to earn over the course of the season? It all, of course, depends on Purdy’s health. There were reports that young starter was eyeing a return for the prime time game against the Falcons, but he was ruled out late last week as the team is wary of rushing him back into action.
While Purdy has the backing of the organization to be the starter, he now has some added pressure given that his backup has outplayed him (despite the small sample size) and kept the team afloat during an injury-ravaged season.
San Francisco will play its next two games on the road, as they are slated to take on the Houston Texans and New York Giants over the next two weeks.
