Jonathan Taylor has been excellent this season for the Indianapolis Colts. Taylor is a huge reason why the Colts are 6-1 and first in the AFC.
The league leader in rushing yards and rushing TDs is Taylor. He has 697 rushing yards and 10 rushing TDs.
For all the praise Daniel Jones is receiving for the Colts’ 6-1 record, Taylor is just as big a reason why the Colts have been so successful this season.
Here are some key stats for the Colts’ offense:
- Points scored per game: 33.1 (1st)
- Yards per game: 387.1 (4th)
- Pass yards per game: 257.0 (6th)
- Rush yards per game: 130.1 (7th)
- Third down efficiency percentage (3rd)
The Colts rank in the top 10 in most key offensive categories, and Taylor is a significant reason why.
Jonathan Taylor Has More Offensive TDs Than The Raiders & Titans
Jonathan Taylor has 10 rushing TDs and one receiving TD. His 11 total TDs are more than two teams. The Raiders have scored 10 offensive touchdowns, while the Titans have scored just six this season.

For all the talk of a QB winning MVP, Taylor deserves some consideration. He has three games of scoring three rushing TDs. Taylor has gone over 100 rushing yards in three of seven games and has been held under 70 rushing yards in just one contest this season, but he scored three rushing TDs in that contest.
He is not just getting it done on the ground. Taylor has recorded three or more receptions in six of seven games, and has not recorded fewer than two receptions this season. Daniel Jones has been targeting Taylor in the pass game often.
Indianapolis Colts’ Defense Playing Well
It is not just the offense that is stepping up, but the defense is also playing well. The Colts are seventh in sacks, third in interceptions, sixth in rushing yards per game, and eighth in points allowed per game.
Sacking the QB and taking the ball away from teams is a recipe for success, and the Colts are doing both at a very high level.
This is a major improvement from last season. With the offense much more efficient this season, it is allowing the defense to play better.
Taylor Can Carry The Colts To Playoff Success
Jonathan Taylor and the Colts are first in the AFC with a 6-1 record. While some may not take them as a serious threat in the playoffs against teams like the Chiefs or Bills, they should not be taken lightly.
With the way the Colts are playing, this is a recipe for success in the playoffs. A team like Buffalo struggles against the run, which is what the Colts do well. They are capable of keeping the ball out of Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes’ hands as the Colts run the ball effectively and do not turn the ball over.
Daniel Jones has just three interceptions on the season. Indianapolis has lost just one fumble this season. The only fumble lost was a boneheaded move by Adonai Mitchell when he let go of the football before crossing the goal line. The Colts are tied for fourth in the league in giveaways.
Another big reason why the Colts can have success in the playoffs is their defense. The Colts are seventh in sacks, third in interceptions, sixth in rushing yards per game, and eighth in points allowed per game.
Indianapolis has the recipe to go far in the playoffs and should not be taken lightly by teams like the Chiefs and Bills.
