Garrett Wilson Trade Rumors: Browns, Steelers Are Top Landing Spots For Jets WR

The New York Jets appear ready to blow up their roster following a 1-7 start. Owner Woody Johnson recently called out quarterback Justin Fields for his lackluster play, leading many to believe that changes could be on the horizon. Running back Breece Hall and edge rusher Jermaine Johnson are reportedly on the trade block but rumors have started to circulate around No. 1 wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

The Jets wide receiver has compiled three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons to start his NFL career, but hasn’t made the kind of leap the Jets were hoping for when they drafted him 10th overall in 2022. With frustration reportedly growing inside the locker room, Wilson missing Sunday’s win against the Bengals, and ownership hinting at sweeping changes, the Jets WR could be the next star to be moved ahead of the trade deadline.

Let’s take a look at a few potential landing spots if the Jets decide to part ways with their top wideout.

Cleveland Browns

Cleveland could be an intriguing fit for Wilson, who grew up just outside Columbus and played for Ohio State before entering the NFL.

The Browns have a playoff-caliber defense but continue to search for consistency on offense, especially in the passing game. Pairing Wilson with Jerry Jeudy would give the Browns rookie QBs two legitimate threats on the outside while opening up space for Harold Fannin Jr. underneath.

After Myles Garrett’s monster day on Sunday, he called out for some help on offense, and maybe this is the push that the Browns front office needs to get a piece they can build around on offense.

The move would also allow head coach Kevin Stefanski and GM Andrew Berry to conduct a thorough evaluation of both Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders for the remainder of the season. Even if neither rookie proves to be the long-term answer, the move would set up the Browns’ next quarterback with enough playmakers to make an immediate impact.

Armed with two first-round picks, Cleveland has the draft capital to make a splash at the deadline. While Wilson won’t come cheap, if the Browns are willing to part with the first-rounder they acquired in the Travis Hunter trade, they could assemble the type of offer that a rebuilding Jets front office would find hard to ignore.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh could be an intriguing destination for Wilson, especially with his former teammate Aaron Rodgers under center. The Steelers have quietly built one of the AFC’s most balanced rosters but still lack a true No. 2 receiver to complement D.K. Metcalf.

Adding Wilson would give Rodgers a polished route-runner who can win at all three levels of the field, creating one of the conference’s most dangerous passing duos. The familiarity between the two could allow Wilson to make an immediate impact, giving the Steelers’ QB a trusted target who already knows his tendencies and timing. The move would also open up space for tight ends and underneath options to thrive in Arthur Smith’s offense.

The Steelers have already made win-now moves by bringing in Jalen Ramsey and Darius Slay in the secondary. Trading for Wilson would be another sign that GM Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin are going all-in on maximizing Rodgers’ championship window, while also giving the team a long-term building block at wide receiver.

Buffalo Bills

The Bills’ passing game hasn’t looked the same since trading Stefon Diggs, leaving Josh Allen to shoulder an overwhelming share of the load on offense.

Adding Wilson would give Buffalo an instant WR1, providing Allen a versatile playmaker who can stretch the field vertically while excelling on intermediate routes.

With the Patriots already threatening the division and the AFC playoff picture tightening, the Bills could be motivated to pull off a bold trade that keeps them on track to contend for a Super Bowl.

Acquiring Wilson would give Buffalo the kind of explosive weapon the offense has been missing, while signaling the team’s commitment to building around Allen.

What Would Garrett Wilson Cost in a Trade?

Garrett Wilson is under contract and still in his prime, so the price isn’t cheap. He’s not a rental. Any team calling would be paying for age, production, and control. The starting point is a premium draft pick, and the conversation doesn’t move without it.

  • Baseline: A 1st-round pick.
  • If multiple teams are involved: A 1st plus a later pick (4th or 5th).
  • If the sending team eats salary: The pick could become conditional based on games played or yardage.
  • No realistic path: A straight Day 2 pick on its own won’t get it done.

The only discount scenario would be if Wilson requests out publicly and forces the situation. Short of that, it’s a 1st-rounder minimum, and the selling team will wait for someone to meet that price.
