After their flurry of activity ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline, the New York Jets have set themselves up for the future. On Thursday, a group of NFL insiders discussed the possibilities for the team in the upcoming months, which included an idea for a trade involving one of the best players in the game.
NFL Insiders Discuss Jets Quarterback Situation
In exchange for giving up two of their key defensive pieces, the Jets now have five first round draft picks to use in the next two years. The cost was shipping off two stars, Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, but they’ve expedited their rebuild by pulling off the bold moves amidst a lost season.

What do they plan on doing with those picks? The quarterback position obviously needs to be addressed, and one would assume that they’d select a top-tier prospect in either of the 2026 or 2027 Drafts.
Or, they could use the picks as ammunition for a trade. On Thursday’s episode of “Get Up” on ESPN, Mike Greenberg, Adam Schefter, and others were addressing the situation. Greenberg, a noted fan of the Jets, said that “all of his Jets fan friends” have stated who they want to be their next quarterback: Joe Burrow.
Would The Bengals Consider Trading Joe Burrow?
Greenberg would go on to call the idea “delusional”, but Schefter gave his thoughts on a more general basis.
Schefter highlighted that the Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Rams also have two first round picks, and mentioned a potential “extra” quarterback on the San Francisco 49ers roster. All of it was to say that there appears to be an arms race for teams to make big moves at the QB position, and caps off the statement by saying that “anyone could be had.”

Would the Bengals entertain such an idea? Burrow is widely considered to be one of the top 3 or 4 quarterbacks in the NFL, and is a perennial MVP candidate who led the league in completions, yards, and touchdowns in 2024. But he is often injured, and Cincinnati has failed to win anything of note since their Super Bowl appearance during the 2021 campaign. In fact, they’re on track to miss the playoffs for the third straight year.
If they were to negotiate a trade with the Jets, it would likely net them most of the first round ammo that New York picked up in recent days, which would give them a chance to reshape their roster and ever-struggling defense.
The co-hosts on “Get Up” quickly shut down the idea. Dan Orlovsky stated that “Joe Burrow can not be had”, while Andrew Hawkins said that the Bengals would be “crazy” to trade their franchise quarterback.
