The Detroit Pistons are rolling early on in the 2025-26 NBA season, and they’ve now won seven games in a row after Cade Cunningham’s record-setting performance on Monday night.
Cade Cunningham Joins NBA Royalty With 40+ Point Triple Double
In a comeback overtime win against the Washington Wizards, Cunningham had the best statistical game of his young career. He achieved a triple double, contributing 46 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists, and also posted 5 steals and 2 blocks on the night.
The performance came just hours after it was announced that he had won Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors.
The only players in NBA history with 40+ PTS, 10+ REB, 10+AST and 5+STL in a single game:
Michael Jordan.

With those numbers, he joins the greatest player ever. Before Cunningham’s dominant output, Michael Jordan was the only player in NBA history to have 40+ points, 10+ rebounds, 10+ assists, and 5+ steals in a single game.
He was anything but efficient, however. In racking up his 46 points, Cunningham attempted 45 shots, and converted just 14 of them. His night included a 2-for-11 performance from three point range, and 16 of his points came from the free throw line. With that, he becomes the first player since the NBA merger in 1976-77 to miss 31 shots in a game.
The only player to miss 30 shots in a single contest previously was Kobe Bryant, which he achieved in 2002.
Pistons Alone In First Place In The East
Through the first three weeks of the season, the Pistons are sitting at 9-2. They own the best record in the East, and are now two games up on the Cavaliers after Cleveland’s loss to Miami on Monday. They’ve played one of the softest schedules thus far, however, and they’ve already lost to the Cavs and Bulls.

The Pistons will take on Chicago again on Wednesday night.
So far this season, Cade Cunningham is averaging 25.6 points and 9.8 assists per game. The latter number ranks him second in the league in that category. The early returns on the MVP odds have Cunningham listed with the 6th shortest odds of any player (+4000).
