Two Montreal Canadiens are out long term with injuries. Left winger Alex Newhook of St. John’s, Newfoundland is out four months after breaking his ankle, and defenseman Kaiden Guhle of Edmonton, Alberta is out eight to 10 weeks after tearing his abductor muscle according to TSN. Both Newhook and Guhle both had surgeries, and their losses are huge as they are instrumental players in the Canadiens’s organization.
Newhook fell into the boards on Thursday feet first in a 7-0 Canadiens loss to the Dallas Stars on Thursday according to nhl.com. Guhle has not played since October 16. The injuries are significant when you consider the fact that the Canadiens lead the Atlantic Division.
Alex Newhook in 2025-26
In 17 games, Newhook has six goals and six assists for 12 points. He is a +7 with eight penalty minutes, one power-play point, two game-winning goals, 24 shots on goal, 37 faceoff wins, five blocked shots, 26 hits, one takeaway, and four giveaways.
Newhook’s power-play point was a power-play goal. It came on October 28 in a 4-3 Canadiens win over the Seattle Kraken. Newhook scored at 5:55 of the third period and put the Canadiens up 3-0 at the time. Newhook scored an all-Canadian goal as Kirby Dach of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta and defenseman Noah Dobson of Summerside, Prince Edward Island had the assists.
Newhook’s first game-winning goal of the season came on November 1n a 4-3 Canadiens win over the Ottawa Senators. Newhook scored his fifth of the season at 1:40 of the extra period. It was an unassisted marker. Newhook’s second game-winning goal of 2025-26 came exactly a week later on November 8. Newhook scored at 13:13 of the second period from Oliver Kapanen of Timra, Sweden. At the time, the Canadiens went up 3-2 in a 6-2 Canadiens win over the Utah Mammoth.
Kaiden Guhle in 2025-26
Guhle has one goal and one assist for two points. He is a +1 with seven penalty minutes, one game-winning goal, seven shots of goal, five blocked shots, 16 hits, three takeaways and seven giveaways.
Guhle’s goal was a game-winning goal in a 3-2 Canadiens win over the Chicago Blackhawks on October 11. Guhle’s goal was dramatic as it came 15 seconds left in regulation and broke a 2-2 tie. Nick Suzuki of London, Ontario and reigning Calder Trophy winning defenseman Lane Hutson of Holland, Michigan had the assists.
Guhle’s assist was in a 3-2 Canadiens win over the Nashville Predators on October 16. He set up Kapanen and tied the game at one at 6:02 of the third period.
