Vance Joseph could emerge as one of the hottest head coaching candidates for the 2026 NFL cycle, and there are several strong arguments for why his stock is rising again.
Will Vance Joseph Land An NFL Head Coaching Job In 2026?
First and foremost, his recent work as the Denver Broncos’ defensive coordinator has reignited his reputation. After rejoining the Broncos in 2023, Joseph orchestrated a dramatic turnaround. Denver’s defense has become one of the best in the league over the last two years, as they finished with the 3rd-best points allowed total in the NFL in 2024.
They’ve continued that success into 2025, as they again rank 3rd in that category. They lead the league in sacks, too, as their total of 46 through ten games is 14 more than any other NFL team.

Because of his success, Joseph figures to be considered for a lead job during the 2026 hiring cycle. He has head coaching experience in the past, as he held the job with the Broncos in 2017 and 2018. There were plenty of struggles during his short stint as the team went 11-21 under his leadership, but the thought is that he has improved and now deserves a second chance.
Which Teams Will Be Making Hires Next Offseason?
The timing is favorable. The 2026 cycle could see several teams looking for defensive-minded, experienced leaders. Joseph’s resurgence in Denver makes it more likely teams will take him seriously as a candidate who can build a foundation and perhaps avoid the mistakes of his first head-coaching run.
Which teams might be interested when the time comes? The Tennessee Titans and New York Giants will certainly be looking for new leaders as the teams who have already made firings this year, but it is likely that they will both be leaning towards offensive-minded candidates given their QB situations.
The Browns, Falcons, and Dolphins could all be in need of a head coach in 2026, and perhaps even the Bills or Raiders. Joseph worked in Miami as a defensive coordinator in 2016, but doesn’t have much of a past connection with any of the other NFL teams who might be in the market.
