Australian Open 2026 Odds: Who Can Challenge Sinner and Alcaraz at Melbourne Park?

World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz dismissed Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets in the second ATP Finals semifinal of the day.  Earlier, Jannik Sinner scored a straight set win over Alex de Minaur, raising his lifetime head-to-head to 13-0 against the Aussie.

Leading up to the Alcaraz and FAA semifinal, both took interesting positions on issues facing ATP players. Alcaraz discussed the frequency of the Davis Cup and FAA talked about the schedule.

Alcaraz’s comments came off in a much more positive light than FAA’s. To be clear, Auger-Aliassime had a terrific season, which included getting married after the US Open and finishing in the Top 5. It may not necessarily have been what he said, but it was how he said it.

Carlos Alcaraz On Davis Cup

Alcaraz shared his opinion that the Davis Cup should not be an annual event. Recall that qualifiers occur the entire season and those that make the finals have their seasons extended after the ATP Finals.

Because players are representing their countries, it is not as simple as showing up to play. Matchups and practices (especially in doubles) have to be considered.

Alcaraz envisioned it more like a PGA Ryder Cup scenario that is not an annual event.

Extending the idea further, the WTA Billie Jean King Cup could happen in opposing years.

Felix Auger-Aliassime On The Tennis Schedule

FAA was somewhat flippant in saying that players are not forced to play, and he does not believe it is too much.

There are ranking and financial considerations to be considered as well as mandatory ATP rules that some of the top players have already hinted that they may not follow in the coming years.

He is feeling great and ended one of his career best seasons getting to the ATP Finals semifinal round; however, he would have been better served to speak from his own experience instead of throwing his peers under the bus with his comments.

ATP Finals: Alcaraz vs. Sinner

It is appropriate that tennis fans will get the Alcaraz vs. Sinner ATP Finals match. The two split Grand Slams this year, and Sinner is the hometown hero and hardcourt wizard that rarely loses in indoor hardcourt matches.

Alcaraz will have to be at his best to nullify the crowd and Sinner’s stellar game.
