The Buffalo Bills had high hopes for wide receiver Keon Coleman with the 33rd overall pick in 2024. He was supposed to be something of a successor to Stefon Diggs, and was certainly pegged as the potential no.1 wideout option for Josh Allen and the team’s offensive attack.

But a lack of production early in his career has raised doubts about his future in the NFL, and there are apparently some character issues that are now becoming a concern for the Bills.

On Sunday, Coleman was a healthy scratch for Buffalo’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. According to multiple reports, the disciplinary action was taken due to Coleman missing a team meeting on Friday, which was a big enough issue for the team to choose to play in a big game without him.
It wasn’t considered a huge loss given the lack of production by Keon Coleman so far this season. In nine games played, the second-year wideout has hauled in 32 catches for 330 yards, giving him a 36.7 yards per game average. While the numbers aren’t terrible for an average NFL wideout, they certainly don’t live up to the expectations for a player who was brought in to be WR1.
In typical Josh Allen fashion, though, the Bills offense has made things work for the most part so far in 2025. They entered Week 11 ranked 12th in the league in total passing yards, which is more of a compliment to their top-ranked rushing attack. It has been Khalil Shakir who has gotten a bulk of the receiving work so far this year, and he came into Sunday’s game with 45 catches and 457 yards.

This is not the first discipline that Coleman has faced this year. Just six weeks ago, he was held out of the team’s opening drive against the New England Patriots, which was a punishment for an unknown offense.
“We expect more,” was something that head coach Sean McDermott said at the time, and he will certainly be asked about the latest situation after the conclusion of the game against the Buccaneers.
