In the moments after the Philadelphia Eagles’ victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Jaelan Phillips doubled down on a statement he had made the previous week. The comments didn’t sit well with Miami Dolphins fans, who felt spurned by their former pass rusher, and they took to social media to criticize Phillips.
On Monday, Phillips addressed the issue directly.
Jaelan Phillips Responds To Upset Dolphins Fans
Drafted in 2021, the now-26-year-old had spent his entire career with the Dolphins. While he was productive during his stay in Miami, it always felt like Phillips was about to make it over the hump and become one of the NFL’s elite pass rushers, but it never really happened. Still, he totalled 15.5 sacks in each of his first two seasons, but had been hampered by injuries ever since.

When he was traded to Philadelphia at the deadline two weeks ago, he was met with mostly respect on his way out of Miami. But it didn’t take long for locker room comments to rub Dolphins fans the wrong way, especially when Phillips saying that the trade to Philly was the “best thing that ever happened to me”,
Phillips was interviewed on the field after Sunday’s win over Detroit, and was asked if he still had the same feeling over a week later. “I’m doubling down on that statement,” he responded before yelling into the camera.
Eagles, Dolphins Both 2-0 Since Trade
Dolphins fans took to Twitter to respond, and Phillips was met with criticism from his former fan base. On Monday afternoon, Phillips retweeted one of the posts, and gave his thoughts. He asked people not to make assumptions based on clickbait. He mentioned that he has never said a negative word about the Dolphins organization, and that he is grateful for his time in Miami.
If anyone would take the time to actually listen to interviews instead of making assumptions based on clickbait, they would realize that I’ve been nothing but humble and grateful for this opportunity to play for an incredible Eagles organization. So far, things have worked out for both teams. The Dolphins are 2-0 and have won 3 of their last 4, and the Eagles’ defense has been taken to another level, with just 16 total points allowed over the last two games.
Jaelan Phillips has recorded one sack in the two contests, but has made a massive impact all over the field. He has 11 total tackles, 2 of them for losses, and he has hit the quarterback four times. He also has a fumble recovery.
